We are immensly proud to announce that for the second time Chef Uwe Micheel, Culinary Advisor at Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Deira Creek in UAE, has won the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the Leaders in Hospitality Awards. Furthermore, Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Waterfront was announced as Leading New Hotel in the Middle East. And Park Inn by Radisson, Duqm Hotel & Residence got nominated as Sustainability Hotel of the Year.
The hospitality and food industry within the Middle East has grown tremendously over the years and boasts an impressive array of talent. Hotel & Catering News has designed the Leaders In Hospitality Awards to celebrate and highlight the individuals, hotels and restaurants shaping this vibrant landscape. The Leaders in Hospitality Awards was back for the fourth time this year and boasts a total of 29 awards.
The shortlisted nominees were announced end of March 2019; and Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Waterfront; Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Deira Creek; Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Media City; Radisson Blu Hotel & Resort, Abu Dhabi Corniche; Radisson Blu Hotel, Abu Dhabi Yas Island and Park Inn by Radisson Abu Dhabi, Yas Island all made it into the final round.
During the event which took place on 23 April, Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Waterfront was announced as winner in the category Leading New Hotel in the Middle East. The key to the opening of the hotel was the stated aim of it becoming ‘The Friendliest Five Star Hotel in Dubai’. A mission statement that caught the imagination of colleagues, guests, press, suppliers and peers and generated some considerable attention. With the awards coming up, the team felt it was ready to showcase all they had delivered and nominated themselves for the Leading new Hotel category. “This award goes to the hotel that has brought an exciting new concept and energy to the Middle Eastern market. It’s a hotel that has combined creativity, originality and an excellent service." The Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Waterfront team was up against with hotels such as Caesars Palace Bluewaters Dubai, W Amman and W Dubai – The Palm. What a fantastic achievement it was when the winner of this year’s leading new hotel award was announced, winning the very first award of the night.
And another milestone for Park Inn by Radisson, Duqm Hotel & Residence as it was scooping the Sustainability Hotel of the Year Award, at the 2019 Leaders in Hospitality Event. In 2017 Park Inn by Radisson, Muscat hotel, picked up at the same award and was the only hotel in Oman nominated in competing with the other hospitality industries in the Middle East. The 'Sustainable Hotel Award' demonstrates an excellence in sustainability practices across energy efficiency, waste management and social responsibility. Both Park Inn by Radisson hotels in Oman are actively engaged in Radisson Hotel Group’s Responsible Business program.
And for the second time Chef Uwe Micheel, Culinary Advisor at Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Deira Creek was able to take the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award home. Living in the UAE for over 26 years now, he has been involved in various culinary and government-related CSR activities which has involved working closely with Dubai Municipality, Dubai Health Authority, HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) and all the main food suppliers in UAE.
With his culinary leadership Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Deira Creek has been a pioneer over the years but arguably his work in helping develop the careers of numerous head chefs and his collaboration with ICCA to provide young chef’s more learning opportunities has stood out. He is a strong supporter of our Responsible Business program activities and has been a passionate spokesperson for several CSR initiatives in the UAE.
